ZAMBOANGA CITY –- Troops of the Joint Task Group Sulu (JTGS) have arrested two people for violation of the election gun ban in the province of Sulu, a top military official announced Monday.
Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, JTGS commander, identified the arrested gun ban violators as Nadzfar Imnaji, 19 and Atlano Sahidjuan, 25, both residents of Barangay Bagsak, Talipao, Sulu.
Arrojado said the violators were arrested around 7:35 a.m. Sunday in Barangay Tiptipon, Panglima Estino, Sulu.
Arrojado said the troops led by 2Lt. Primo Passion, executive officer of the 32nd Infantry Battalion, were conducting checkpoint when they were intercepted Imnaji and Sahidjuan who were traversing the municipal service road linking Panglima Estino and Talipao towns.
Confiscated from their possession were a caliber .45 pistol with six rounds of live ammunition.
The suspects were turned over to the police in Panglima Estino for the filing of appropriate charges.
The gun ban took effect midnight of Jan. 9 in time for the start of the election period for the May 2016 presidential and local polls pursuant to Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution No. 3328. PNA / northboundasia.com
