ZAMBOANGA CITY – Seventeen people were injured after the jeep they were riding overshot and fell into a ditch in Lamitan City, Basilan province.
Chief Insp. Allan Benasing, Lamitan City police chief, disclosed the accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. Friday in Barangay Campo Uno, Lamitan City.
Benasing said the driver lost control of the steering wheel after the vehicle’s brake malfunctioned while negotiating a curve in the village.
He said the passenger jeep was traveling from Tipo-Tipo town to the city proper of Lamitan at the time of the accident.
The jeep was also loaded with some cargo, like empty cases of soft drinks, aside from the full-packed passengers.
Benasing said the passengers were taken to the hospital. Three of them were listed in critical condition. PNA-northboundasia.com
