13 exchange students killed in bus crash in Spain

BARCELONA — A total of 24 injured people remain hospitalized on Monday after a coach crashed on Sunday killing 13 university students, with six seriously injured and one in critical condition.

The injured come from 12 countries, consist of 18 women and six men and they are in 10 hospitals in Barcelona, Tortosa, Amposta and Vinaroz.

The 62-year-old driver has been admitted to the hospital of Tortosa in serious condition with chest injuries. Reports said he never met any incident in his 17 years of driving and tested negative for drugs and alcohol.

Authorities are working to repatriate the bodies of the dead as soon as possible. Seven of the 13 dead are from Italy, two from Germany, one from Romania, one from France, one from Uzbekistan and one from Austria. They were between 19 and 25 years old.
