12-hour power outage in Benguet on Wednesday

BAGUIO CITY –- A 12-hour power outage is scheduled on Wednesday (Aug. 31) due to maintenance of several electric posts affected by lightning.

Lilibeth Gaydowen, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Officer of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on Tuesday said the power outage will affect more than 20,000 power consumers of the Benguet Electric Cooperative, Inc (BENECO) in the Benguet Municipalities of Atok, Kapangan, Kibungan, Bokod, Kabayan, Buguias, Bakun and Mangkayan.

Gaydowen said the maintenance activity will involve the replacement of damaged electric posts and insulators affected by the lightning.

Earlier, Gaydowen announced that the maintenance activity originally scheduled on Tuesday (Aug. 30) has been cancelled due to inclement weather.

The maintenance would have resulted to a 9-hour power outage in parts of Baguio City and Benguet province from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The scheduled NGCP testing and maintenance activity at the Philex Metering facility will affect the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) Itogon substation.

Gaydowen said the maintenance work will be rescheduled.

Meanwhile, BENECO will also conduct rehabilitation and repair activities on September 1 and 2 which will result to 8-hr power outages in several barangays in Baguio City.

The NGCP and BENECO issued an advisory for cable and communication companies to take these opportunities to implement rehabilitation activities. PNA/northboundasia.com
