1 killed, 1 hurt, thousands stranded for hours in Subic road mishap

SUBIC, Zambales — A truck driver was killed, a helper was seriously injured, and thousands of workers and students arrived late in their destinations after two truck trailers collided head-on on Tuesday along the national highway in this municipality.

Subic police identified the victim as Rufino Sebastian, 49, of Pandi, Bulacan, and the driver of a trailer truck with plate number CVX 305 owned by MOJ Company Subic.

Severely hurt was a truck helper named Tonton Agsayang, a resident of Barangay Pamatawan, Subic.

Based on initial investigation, the accident occurred around 1 a.m. Tuesday along the national highway in Barangay Aningway-Sacatihan, Subic, where the MOJ truck was last seen travelling fast going south direction.

Witnesses said the white MOJ truck suddenly occupied the other lane and collided head-on against the incoming bulk carrier truck driven by Edgar Cubangbang, 46, of Suralla, South Cotabato.

The heavy impact caused Sebastian to crash on his truck’s windshield and died on the spot.

Meanwhile, thousands of workers and students were stranded and went late for hours to their destinations due to unavailability of heavy equipment at that time to remove the two involved trailers which completely blocked the narrow and only access road to Subic town and Olongapo City.
