1 DIES, 3 HOSPITALIZED IN KNIFE ATTACK ON CHRISTMAS DAY IN DAGUPAN

DAGUPAN CITY—A 31-year old man, in defense of his physically handicapped cousin, stabbed four persons, one of whom died, in a violent incident that happened in Barangay Salisay here on Christmas Day.

The suspect, identified as Jaime Caramat, 31 resident of barangay Salisay here, stabbed Rommel Daroya, 22, Arnold Clores, 44, Armando Clores, 37 and Ildefonso Rosario, 27, all of Dagupan City, one after the other.

Initial investigation by the Dagupan City police station (DCPS)showed that the victims, particularly the Clores brothers, allegedly attacked Ariel Caramat, cousin of the suspect while they were having a drinking spree.

The suspect tried to stop the attack as he pleaded in behalf of his cousin who has a physical defect in his hand but the victims also attacked Caramat, prompting him to retaliate by pulling out a bladed weapon.

Daroya was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physician due to the fatal wound in his breast while the three other victims were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Caramat later surrendered to his brother who is a member of the Barangay Peace Keeping Action Team (BPAT). PNA/northboundasia.com
