LAOAG CITY — In observance of National Children’s Month this November, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) of Ilocos Norte hosted a special day for children on Tuesday.
Day-care children and workers from the province’s 21 municipalities gathered at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena to discuss the welfare of children and how they can be protected from illegal drugs.
Provincial social welfare officer Lilian Rin said that as one of the highlights of the annual celebration, 42 day-care children aged three to four years competed in singing and draw-and-tell contests. Cash awards and interesting prizes were given to the winners.
With this year’s theme, “Bata Iligtas sa Droga!”, the 25th National Children’s Month celebration focuses on President Rodrigo Duterte’s war against illegal drugs.
Republic Act No. 10661 declares the month of November of every year as National Children’s Month to commemorate the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly on Nov. 20, 1989 and to instill its significance in the consciousness of Filipinos.
