CEBU CITY — Another 9,000 fully-grown marijuana plants were uprooted Friday morning in Danao City by a combined team of law enforcers headed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7).
The narcotic plants were immediately burned by elements of PDEA-7, Cebu Provincial Police Office, and Danao City Police Station right on the plantation in the mountain barangay of Togonon, Danao City.
Last Wednesday, 9,000 plants and 3,000 marijuana seedlings were also uprooted by Danao City Police in Barangay Sibacan. Togonon and Sibacan are both remote and secluded barangays in Danao City.
Police investigators identified the cultivators of the plantations in Sibacan and Togonon as Ricardo Cal and Julito Batucan, respectively.
However, acting Danao City Police chief Gerard Ace Pelare said suspects Cal and Batucan remain at large as of the moment.
The PDEA-7 and Danao City Police will continue to sweep the mountain barangays of Danao as they believe there are more plantations in the area likely hidden under thick foliage. Luel Galarpe with reports from Michelle Bugtai/PNA -northboundasia.com
