DAVAO CITY— Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has been tested negative for illegal drugs use based on results released by City Hall Tuesday afternoon.
Leading by example, Duterte-Carpio underwent a mandatory random drug test on Tuesday. City Hall department heads and drivers also underwent the same test.
The city mayor said the simple act of submitting oneself to a drug test plays a big role in the society, especially with the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.
“We have to lead by example in our society with regard to healthy living, being clean, and not engaging to illegal drugs,” she said in an interview.
Asked what happens to an employee who would be tested positive for illegal drugs use, Duterte-Carpio said they would be referred to the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) for rehabilitation.
“It will depend, if he is under contract, then we can terminate him immediately, however, we will also consider his service, we can send him to CADAC for a rehab, same as for the plantilla position,” she said.
Under the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Circular no. 13 series of 2017, all government employees, plantilla or job order, shall undergo a mandatory random drug test.
The mandatory random drug test among government employees is in close coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
About 12,000 employees of the city government will undergo random drug testing. The drug test also covers those city government employees in the field. Funny Pearl Gajunera/PNA-northboundasia.com
