BAGUIO CITY — The Public Employment Services Office (PESO) here has won the regional search for the best PESO in the Cordillera, earning the nomination for the national award.
Given by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III on October 4, the assessment for the award gave the city a rating of 89.75 percent.
Aside from the office, Mayor Mauricio Domogan and PESO Manager Jose Atanacio were also recognized for their support in the promotion and delivery of the DOLE’s employment facilitation program.
Atanacio on Monday said the office was exerting more efforts to advance the government’s assistance to “job-hunting” residents, to give them more avenues or chances of employment.
The Baguio PESO office holds two regular city-sponsored job fairs in a year, during Labor Day on May 1 and as part of the Baguio City foundation day celebration every September.
The city PESO also joins the DOLE-sponsored job fair every Independence Day on June 12 and about four to five other job fairs which are sponsored by the private sector.
Atanacio said they have noted a 21 to 22-percent rate of on-the-spot hiring of applicants in job fair events.
He said that aside from holding and participating in job fairs, their office also holds trainings to help enhance the skills of workers aside from assisting applicants on the “what to do” and “what to prepare” when applying for a job. PNA-northboundasia.com
