LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, has challenged the Cordillera police force not only to run after drug personalities but also to be on guard against rogue colleagues.
“I am very proud to say that the PROCOR (Police Regional Office-Cordillera) police force has outstanding achievements and they really remain as the true image of the Cordillera warrior who is tough, courageous and very disciplined to fight for peace and order,” dela Rosa said after the ceremony of his adoption as a “son of Cordillera” Friday.
PROCOR was presented the “Best Regional Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee” in Luzon and at the national level in recognition of its achievements in pursuing the government’s anti-drug drive.
Fourteen months since the launch of “Oplan Double Barrel” in July 2016, five Cordillera provinces have been declared drug-free, at least 20,000 drug users and pushers have surrendered, 568 drug personalities have been arrested, and the crime volume has dropped.
“As we pay tribute to the sterling service of our past comrades in the organization, let us move forward to a new journey of service. And as we go on, we can also take time to celebrate our achievements and learn lessons from them, for us to be more effective in performing our duties,” dela Rosa said.
He also called on the Cordillera policemen to protect the image of law enforcers.
“It seems that despite our strong internal cleansing efforts, there are still some rogue cops who continue to destroy the image of our organization. This saddens us but we cannot allow these misguided police to grow as rogue cops. Be vigilant against your erring comrades and be the model of discipline and integrity,” he added.
Dela Rosa told the Cordillera police to read the “bible” of the police as a guide in the performance of their duties.
“The message is very clear that we should always be guided by our Police Operational Procedures. We are the enforcers of the law and we should always remain true to our mandate, because if not, the PNP will be dragged into more trouble. Remember, the entire nation is looking at our every move,” he said.
