ZAMBOANGA CITY — Three people died while three others missing and feared dead when rampaging floodwaters swept a dump truck in a river in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Tuesday.
The incident occurred at around 3:50 p.m. Monday at Dapitan River in Barangay Singaran, La Liberted town, according to Senior Supt. Raul Tacaca, Zamboanga del Norte police director.
Tacaca identified the fatalities as Lilia Eleobido, Ihid Pico, and Joana Tuse. Their remains were retrieved one after the other hours after the incident.
He said investigation showed that the victims were aboard a dump truck that was swept by rampaging floods while crossing the Dapitan river.
He said the remains of the three victims were retrieved by the responding policemen while search continued to locate the remaining three.
He said one of them, Eleobido, whose remains were among those recovered, died of acute respiratory failure secondary to drowning based on the finding of the La Libertad Municipal Health Office.
