Solons should rethink P1-K CHR budget: DND chief

MANILA — Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana is hoping that the House of Representatives will reconsider its decision to give a measly PHP1,000 budget to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) as this will definitely stiffle the agency’s check-and-balance mandate.

“I hope they (House of Representatives) will reconsider it. It is a constitutional body, then they have to support,”  Lorenzana said during an ambush interview at the Senate Thursday.

He added that he strongly supports moves to retain the CHR and be funded to be able to perform its mandate.

And during his time as a military commander, Lorenzana said he did not have any quarrel or problems with the CHR as he had closely coordinated with its representatives.

This results in human rights’ seminars and training for all officers and enlisted personnel under his command which made them more aware of their limitations and responsibilities. PNA-northboundasia.com
