PUGO, La Union – A policeman gunned down a man who parked his car in front of the former’s house in Barangay Tavora East here last Sunday morning.
Chief Inspector Silverio Ordinado, Jr., La Union police information officer, identified the suspect as Police Officer 1 Francis Michael Laranang, 35, newly-assigned at the La Union Police Provincial Office General Services Section, Camp Deigo Silang, Barangay Carlatan in San Fernando City.
Laranang, now in the custody of the Pugo Municipal Police Station, will face administrative and murder charges.
The victim, identified as Samson Eloja, 33, a resident of Barangay Ambalite, Pugo town was declared dead-on-arrival due to sustained gunshot wounds by attending physicians at the La Union Medical Center in Agoo.
According to Ordinado, the victim went to the village on board his Ford Escape and parked it in front of the suspect’s house, who was irritated and confronted Eloja, who then moved his car to a nearby basketball court. But Laranang, who was allegedly drunk, followed the man and shoot him several times with his 9 mm. caliber service firearm.
Ordinado, in a radio interview, said that Laranang was previously assigned at the Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office and was transferred to the La Union police provincial office last August 29.
He added that he was alleged involvedly in a previous gun- shooting incident in 2013 but he amicably settled it for P300,000.
Laranang will undergo the usual due process, as relatives of the victim, who had worked in Saudia Arabia, and was set to go to Australia as a caregiver, cried for justice.
In an interview, Eloja’s mother, Tessie, said that her son went to Tavora East to follow-up an earlier outing agreement with a friend, a neighbor of Laranang. with William Garcia, Jr/Northbound Philippines News
