CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – A total of P2.8-million worth of illegal drugs were turned into ashes during a ceremonial burning spearheaded by personnel of the Ilocos regional office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Barangay Carlatan here Tuesday.
The contraband goods had been used as evidence against persons who were charged in various courts in the Ilocos region for violation against Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Bismark Bengwayan, PDEA-1 information officer, said that the exact value of the illegal drugs was P2, 819,428.68 consisting of 321.7077 grams of the banned methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu with a total amount of P1, 930,246.20, while marijuana leaves were worth P889, 182.48.
The ceremonial burning was part of the nationwide observance of the 23rd National Crime Prevention Week.
