7 Modern Evacuation Centers Now Being Built in Ilocos Region

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Seven evacuation centers equipped with modern facilities are currently under construction in various areas in the Ilocos Region by the Department of Public Works and Highways regional office here.
The  evacuation centers will all have an accommodation buildings with dining room, food preparation and dish washing area, communication room, breastfeeding and storage, male and female toilets and bathrooms, ‘laundry and drying areas and water tanks.
 
The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Centers and Office of the Civil Defense will also have separate attached offices, generator rooms, pump rooms, garbage disposal sites, and additional facilities and equipment.
“These evacuation centers for disasters are soon to be completed and will be used during calamities,” said Ronnel Tan, DPWH regional director.
 
Tan said some of the projects are in various stages of completion–95 percent in in Bacnotan, La Union; 75 percent in Calasiao, Pangasinan; and 70 percent in Alaminos City.
 
Ground breaking ceremonies for the evacuation centers in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, and Paoay, Ilocos Norte were held on June 1 June 15, respectively. For the projects in Dasol, and San Nicolas, Pangasinan were bidded out last July 25.
 
Tan said the construction of all the evacuation centers also includes painting, drainage system, site development, street lighting and power load center.
 
The evacuation centers will cater in the relocation of individuals and families dwelling in disaster risk areas in the four provinces and expected to serve its purpose in the Disaster Risk Reduction Management to save lives and properties. NPN-northboundasia.com
