5 ZAMBOANGA CITY — A suspected drug pusher was killed while five others were arrested in separate anti-illegal drug operations in this city, police officials announced Saturday.
Slain was Mercedito Luna, 31, a resident of Barangay Putik, this city.
Supt. Mark Azur, Police Station 5 chief, said Luna was killed in a buy-bust operation at around 9 p.m. Friday in Barangay Putik.
Azur said that Luna pulled and aimed his handgun upon sensing the persons he was transacting with illegal drugs are policemen.
But Azur said Luna was killed as one of the two policemen was quick to draw and opened fire before Luna managed to pull the trigger of his handgun.
He said the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) recovered from the scene a caliber .357 revolver with six rounds of ammunition, P200 marked money and a sachet of suspected shabu.
Supt. Diomarie Albarico, officer-in-charge of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), identified those arrested as follows: Alih Johny, 43; Ebbiel Jaid Falcasantos Dumarapat, 18; Mercedes Montante, 33; Nil Gadong, 30; and, Sherhan Tiblan, 29.
Albarico said they were arrested in buy-bust operations on Friday in two separate barangays.
Johny was arrested in Barangay Baliwasan; and, Dumarapat, Montante, Gadong and Tiblan in Barangay Ayala.
Albarico said the arresting team recovered from the suspects’ possession packs of suspected shabu, marked money and illegal drug-paraphernalia.
He said the suspects were detained pending the filing of appropriate charges against them.
He said they have intensified the anti-illegal drug operations in line with the campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte against prohibited drugs. TPGJR/PNA-northboundasia.com
