Secretary Andanar launches PCOO Network in Pangasinan

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Aug. 12 — Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar launched on Friday the Presidential Communications Operations Officers’ Network to serve as link from Malacanang down to the provinces and the provinces to Malacanang.

This was made during his busy working visit in Pangasinan starting Friday morning, which included a press conference with members of the working media in Dagupan, a call on Governor Amado Espino III, a luncheon meeting with provincial, city and municipal officials and regional directors and a separate meeting with Public Information Officers of cities, and municipalities and of different government line agencies.

He was also a guest on a talk show over a local public affairs program at Kabaleyan Cable TV Channel in Dagupan along with Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez, then at Aksyon Radyo.

Andanar said the PCOO Net is not new since this was already up in 2004 during the administration of then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo but unfortunately, it was not sustained.

The PCOO Secretary was accompanied by Assistant Secretary Anna Marie Banaag and Social Security System Commissioner Gonzalo T. Duque, also a columnist of the Pangasinan newspaper “The Sunday Punch”.

Andanar said the PCCO Network will be organized in all provinces and will be tasked with the duty of informing the people in their respective areas on what the government is doing for them and in also informing the Office of the President on what is going on in the field and on issues and concerns that need to be addressed immediately by the President.

He said he will call a four-day national convention of all public information officers who are members of the PCOO Net in Davao City by February or March next year with no less than President Rodrigo Duterte as guest of honor and speaker.

As an arm of the PCOO, the network will also be tapped to explain to the people what federalism is all about so that the people, especially in the grassroots, will understand it better, he said.

Addressing provincial and municipal officials, in a forum also attended by Governor Espino III and Fifth District Congressman Amado Espino Jr. over lunch at the Provincial Technology and Development Center in Lingayen, Secretary Andanar revealed various technology innovations going on in his agency in order to reach out to the people and address their concerns.

At the same time, he said the first administrative order issued by President Duterte since he took over the helm of the government was the creation of a Presidential Task Force on Media Security to secure the lives of media men who are at risk of being harmed due to the nature of their work.

Administrative Order No. 1 creating a Presidential Task Force on Media Security shows that President Duterte cares for the working press and is thinking for their welfare, Andanar said.
