Motorcycle rider dead, another hurt in Bataan mishap

BALANGA CITY, Bataan — One rider died while another, his brother, was injured when their two motorcycles crashed into a big tree that fell during the height of heavy rains at dawn of Friday along the dark Roman Superhighway in Limay, this province.

Rescue workers of the Metro Bataan Development Authority rushed brothers Roben, 22 and Robert Bagasan, 20, to the Bataan General Hospital in Balanga City but Roben died a few minutes later.

Marie Bagasan, 47, said her two sons left their house in Puerto Rivas Draga, here on two motorcycles at 4 a.m. to report for work as security guard in the Bataan Oil Refinery in Limay.

Divina Javier, restaurant owner, said the big narra tree fell along the four-lane highway in barangay Duale, Limay but a few minutes later or at about 4:30 in the morning, two motorcycles arrived.

“There are two people who were making signs through flashflight for the two motorcycles but the riders did not stop and crashed into the fallen tree,” she said.

She said that the two riders were wearing helmet but they might not have noticed the warning because of heavy rains.

She said one rider was able to slow down and was not badly hurt but the other was thrown out of his motorcycle.

“The posts along the highway have no lights and the rains were strong too,” Javier said.

Police said investigation is still going on. Ernie Esconde/PNA-northboundasia.com
