BANI, Pangasinan — A nine-year-old boy from Sitio Apalang, Barangay Luac in Bani town drowned in a less than seven-foot deep pond near a rice field where his grandmother was planting rice at 3:05 p.m. of July 23, the police reported today (Monday).
The victim was identified as Lawrence Pizarro, a Grade 4 pupil of the Luac Elementary School in Bani.
At 2:30 p.m., Lawrence with his younger sister Maria Alexa Pizzaro, 8 years old and their friends Jessa Del Rosario and two other minors went to the rice field where their grandmother and other people were planting rice.
As they were waiting for their grandmother, the children decided to go to a small pond more or less 100 meters away to swim.
About 30 minutes later, Jessa yelled for help, telling that Lawrence had drowned.
Immediately, his grandmother and her companions rushed to the pond and retrieved the victim. He was rushed to the San Juan Medical Center in Poblacion, Bani but was declared dead on arrival. Leonardo Micua/PNA-northboundasia.com
