Police security beefed up in Ilocos town hall

LAOAG CITY — Additional policemen were deployed at the municipal hall of Marcos town following the July 14 arrest of newly-installed Mayor Jessie Ermitanio in connection to the killing of his predecessor, mayor Arsenio Agustin.

Marcos police chief Sr. Insp. Joseph Calderon said they have increased police visibility in Marcos town to maintain peace and order situation here.

On Friday, a bomb threat halted work at the Marcos town hall until members of the Explosives Ordnance Division cleared the operations.

The bomb threat came after a series of search warrant operations at the properties of Ermitanio where police seized high-powered arms and explosives.

As of this posting, Ermitanio still under the custody of the Crime Investigation and Detection Group. His personal driver, Renato Esta, was also arrested for possessing an unlicensed cal. .45 pistol and a shotgun taken from his house.

Ermitanio’s three other household workers, who were present when the police raided the mayor’s house, were also held by the police.

Ilocos Norte Provincial Director Joe Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police were gathering witnesses’ affidavits that would link Ermitanio to Agustin’s killing. LGA/PNA-northboundasia.com
