TAGBILARAN CITY — A total power blackout hit Bohol on Thursday afternoon moments after a 6.5-magnitude earthquake shook the town of Jaro in Leyte.
Bohol sources its electricity supply from Leyte.
Betty Martinez, spokesperson of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), said two 138kv Ormoc-Maasin circuits tripped as a result of the quake hitting Leyte at around 4:06 pm.
Martinez said there is no word yet when the power will be restored.
Bohol has been seeking ways to have an inland power source and move away from importing power from other provinces.
The province experienced nearly three weeks without power during the 2013 killer earthquake. Dave Albarado/PNA-northboundasia.com
