SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) has received the governance medallion for its Performance Governance System (PGS) Compliance Stage and the Silver Trailblazer Award during the recently-concluded Public Revalida or oral discourse conducted by panelists asking a series of questions on development and compliance.
The affair was administered by the Institute for Solidarity in Asia, an organization advocating PGS to various partners such as national government agencies and others as a “core approach to good governance and citizenship.”
The adoption of the PGS fostered transformation and instilled positive change in the province and facilitated the translation of the province’s governance charter to actionable strategies and commitments.
The PGS is geared towards the development of agri-tourism in its component local government units whose performance report for Compliance highlighted La Union’s strategy in attaining its vision to make the province as “Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.”
In a statement, Gov. Emmanuel Francisco Ortega III said that he rejoiced in knowing that La Union has shown the way, and has become the bridge for truly dynamic development processes to succeed in its component LGUs.
“We bridge the gap and lead the way to participatory, inclusive transformation and development,” he added.
The PGLU passed the following criteria for the said stage: the presence of an Office for Strategy Management to oversee the formulation and its execution; mechanism to involve stakeholders in the attainment and realization of the vision; a Multi-Sectoral Governance Council consisting of external stakeholders from the different sectors drawn together to sustain the transformative agenda and efforts of the local government unit; and a communication plan for the implementation of the programs.
The Silver Trailblazer Award is a symbol for the province as a beacon of light, dedicated in delivering the highest standards of public service and commitment to ensure a bright future for the people of the province.
The deliberations and conferment ceremonies were held at the Bayanihan Center, UNILAB Compound in Pasig City.
Present during the occasion were provincial officials, department heads, and employees, the MSGC, the municipal mayors of the province, and public and private sector partners. JNPD/Anne Hazel Fajardo-Flores/PIA-1
