MANILA — The Manila Police District (MPD) on Friday said the explosion near the Arellano Police Community Precinct (PCP) is now under investigation.
MPD spokesman Supt. Erwin Margarejo said initial report said that a fragmentation hand grenade was thrown by a lone suspect which hit the pavement and damaged three vehicles — 1 Toyota Fortuner, 1 Ford Everest and 1 motorcyle.
He said a follow-up investigation and police operations are being conducted by the MPD intelligence operating unit for the immediate arrest of the suspect.
Margarejo also stressed that the explosion cannot be considered as an “act of terrorism”.
“Firstly, the signs of terrorism it is premeditated, well-planned and (usually) meron pong casualty,” he said.
The MPD official authorities are still determining the possible motive “considering that it is a depressed area — grupo sa grupo, ayaw ng magkabilang grupo doon sa Tuazon street at Zapanta street.”
Initial investigation said the blast happened around 3:17 a.m. along Arellano Street in San Andres Bukid in Malate district near the Arellano Police Community Precinct.
