CALASIAO — The Provincial Health Office (PHO) is conducting an investigation into the mass food poisoning of 33 pupils of the Nalsian-Bacayao Elementary School in Calasiao town on Thursday.
Provincial Health Officer Ana de Guzman said they have obtained samples of the supposed contaminated burger eaten by the pupils during their recess which they bought from a vendor outside their campus.
The pupils were rushed to the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) in San Carlos City after suffering from nausea, severe stomach pains and vomiting shortly after eating the burger.
Initial report stated that the burger was stuffed with entrails of chicken locally called “isaw” and mixed with some chicken liver.
De Guzman said of the 33 pupils who were brought to the PPH, there were just 22 who are still under medication but will soon be released.
She advised pupils not to buy street food outside their school but rather from their school canteens.
The street food vendors, she added, have no sanitary permits and therefore, the food they sell poses danger to school pupils.
At the same time, De Guzman ordered Calasiao Municipal Health Officer Jesus de Vera to check on food peddlers near schools in order to safeguard the health of pupils.LEONARDO MICUA/PNA – northboundasia.com
