NBI-6 to probe PDEA agent’s death

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Regional Office 6 will take charge of the probe on the death of a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent during a buy bust operation on Tuesday afternoon.

This, after NBI Antique chief Damaso Autajay here has asked to inhibit himself to give fair and impartial investigation.

Autajay, in an interview Wednesday afternoon, said that the incident happened in Antique and that was the reason why he was inhibiting himself, which was also requested by the family of PDEA agent Macario Grasparil Jr. alias “Kayo” or “Macki”.

Grasparil, suspected of recycling the seized drugs during PDEA operations, was subject of the buy-bust operation of the joint elements of the Sibalom Police Station and the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) at his residence in Sitio Salong, San Juan village.

Autajay said that as part of the investigation, the NBI conducted an autopsy and paraffin test on the agent’s body.

“As part of our findings in the initial investigation we had the identification of gun shot wounds, entry and exit of gunshot wounds, and time of incident,” he said.

The possible witnesses for the investigation were also identified.

”May be tomorrow the case will already be assigned to an NBI agent,” he said.

The family has requested the NBI to step in the case so to know what really transpired during the police operation. Annabel Petinglay/PNA-northboundasia.com
