CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – Four persons drowned while swimming in the seawater off San Fernando City and Bauang town last Saturday.
Chief Inspector Silverio Ordinado, Jr., La Union Police Information Officer, identified the San Fernando City fatality as 15-year-old Charles Ace P. Gapuz , who was swept away by strong underwater current near the beach opposite Blue Horizon resort in Barangay Canaoay.
Gapuz was reported missing by his picnic companions at about 12:50 p.m. and relayed the message to the boy’s mother Beverly.
Responding rescuers of the Philippine Coast Guard and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council retrieved the body of the victim after searching for him for four hours.
Ordinado identified the drowning victims in Bauang as Ronnie P. Sobremonte, 21, and his cousins, Adelle Reanne Abril Biteng, 19, of Suso, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur; and David Gil Perez, 22.
Sobremonte, a resident of Barangay Paringao, along with unidentified companions went swimming in the sea off the village Sunday afternoon, when he was swept away by strong current. He reportedly called for help, and his cousins tried but failed to save Sobremonte
Sobremonte was found dead by rescuers Sunday morning, while Biteng and Perez, who were rushed earlier by companions at a nearby hospital, did not survive despite efforts by doctors to revive them, according to Ordinado. Erwin Beleo/NPN-northboundasia.com
