TAGBILARAN CITY– No damage was reported in Saturday morning’s 5.6 magnitude earthquake that shook several towns in the eastern part of Bohol.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported the epicenter of the earthquake at 19 kilometers east of Lila town, at a depth of 567 kilometers.
The quake hit at around 9:06 a.m. and had a magnitude of 5.6, PHIVOLCS said.
Based on the coordinates provided by PHIVOLCS, the epicenter was in the waters off Lila town.
The police stations of Lila and nearby Loay town reported no casualties and damage due to the earthquake.
They said the residents there hardly felt anything and never knew there was an earthquake.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRMMC) has yet to complete a report on the situation in relation to the Saturday quake as of press time.
The PHIVOLCS said it was not expecting any damage, but expects aftershocks.
The United States Geological Survey said the epicenter of the quake was located at 23 kms., south of Loay town. The USGS said the quake had a magnitude of 5.9.
Bohol was hit by a huge earthquake almost four years ago.
