Ilocos Norte DepEd personnel, school heads undergo self mastery workshop

LAOAG CITY —- While Ilocos schoolchildren are having their summer break, personnel of the Ilocos Norte’s School Division Office and principals here are trying to “cleanse” their brains and inculcate positive thoughts to be ready for the June 5 opening of classes.

About 225 school heads and employees here have started to attend an eight-day seminar dubbed as, “Whole brain literacy self-mastery capability program” — focusing on the inner self and well-being of educators in order to deliver quality education services to Ilocano students.

Initiated by Schools Division Superintendent Vilma Eda, the seminar workshop focuses on an in-depth evaluative journey on how participants fulfill their roles and cope with the demands of the world in light of their ability to think, do, feel, communicate, and lead the organization, among others.

It is also anchored on neuroscience research findings on brain preference and behavior.

Leading the ongoing training here is Dr. Cecilia Manikan, a professional consultant for educational institutions, arts organizations and private corporations. As a regular trainer and course developer for DepEd’s leadership programs, Manikan and her mentor, Dr. Eduardo Morato Jr. pioneered and introduced the whole brain learning system and self-mastery course which is now being practiced by several schools in basic and tertiary education nationwide.

Eda hopes that through understanding the basic concepts, theories and principles of why people behave the way they do, why they behave differently from one another, and how these translate to teaching-learning styles and organizational dynamics in management and leadership situations will lead into a better appreciation and improvement of one’s performance in the workplace.

Aileen Rambaud, principal of the Puritac-Dalayap Elementary School, said the training is very useful and timely as the participants discover the true essence of love, compassion and kindness in words and in deeds, as well as how to guard their thoughts, to think positive and to be healthy at all times by avoiding stress and embracing happiness that facilitates fun learning, decreases pain and increases pleasure.

Using mind-spirit connection anchored on “Chakra” system, the participants engage in meditation to uplift their spirits. LGA/PNA-northboundasia.com
