CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – A former vice- mayor of a North Luzon town, along with a female companion, were shot dead in an ambush by
unidentified suspects along the Aspiras Highway in Barangay Tavora East, Pugo town Wednesday night.
Chief Inspector Silverio Ordinado, Jr., La Union police information officer, identified the fatalities as Vincent Rafanan, 42, former Sto, Tomas vice- mayor and resident of Barangay Casilagan, Sto. Tomas; and his companion, Beatriz Malicdem Sakamoto, 31 years old, of Basista, Pangasinan.
Initial investigation showed that the victims were on board a blue Mazda car (PVM 570) at around 10:00 p.m. when they were attacked by armed men riding in motorcycles.
Victims sustained gunshot wounds on their heads and bodies and were rushed to the La Union Medical Center in Agoo but both were declared dead on arrival.
Policemen recovered empty shells of calibre. 45 pistol and armalite rifle at the crime scene.
Investigators are looking into possible motives of the killing such as politics and personal grudge.
