Neophyte radio reporter to file direct assault charges against PDEA-6 agents

KALIBO, Aklan — A neophyte radio reporter is set to file direct assault charges against operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Region 6 or Western Visayas.

Darwin Tapayan, radio reporter of the Energy News FM, told the Philippine News Agency on Thursday that his radio company is helping him file charges against the PDEA-6 agents.

The incident happened when Tapayan joined a drug operation here Monday afternoon. A CCTV footage showed that he was harassed by an unidentified PDEA agent, who also confiscated his cellphone.

The drug operation was considered controversial because the suspect, Emmanuelito Sualog, was a former councilor of Buruanga town. The seventh top drug suspect in the province was arrested during operation.

Sualog’s mother did not give comments as of press time due to the sensitivity of the case. The suspect was allegedly caught possessing two sachets of suspected shabu and a PHP1,000 marked money.

During the drug operation, Arbelle Sauza, a reporter of Brigada News FM, told the police that Tapayan was a legimate member of the press.

The PDEA agent turned over Tapayan’s cellphone to Eleanor Reyes, anchorwoman of IBC-dyRg ,who was also present at the scene.

The PDEA operatives could not be reached for comment as of press time as they are now in Iloilo. PNA-northboundasia.com
