Construction of irigation system in western part of Ilagan pushed

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela — A Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) member of this city has proposed to the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) -2 to construct an irrigation system in the western part of the city.

SP Samuel Maddara, Committee Chairman on Agriculture, said the proposed measure aims to add more irrigable lands in the western section of the city thus increasing rice production in the 17 barangays.

Maddara noted that there are vast of irrigable lands in the stretch of the Cagayan River and an irrigation system is needed to realize the increase in rice production.

SP Member Maddara’s proposal was raised during their regular session held at the SP session hall on Tuesday.

His proposal was unanimously approved by all city council members.

He said the western part of the city produces corn and tobacco which are dependent on rainfall but during scarcity of rain, an irrigation system would surely allow farmers to shift to rice farming. PNA-northboundasia.com
