MANILA — Department of Interior and Local Government secretary Ismael Sueno denied the corruption and bribery allegations, which was reported by the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte – National Executive Coordinating Committee (MRRD-NECC).
The MRRD-NECC is the national volunteer organization which helped the former Davao City mayor get elected as president.
The secretary noted in a statement that he had never used his position to enrich himself or pursue his personal interests in his many years of public service.
He stressed the hotel in South Cotabato, which was mentioned in the letter, belongs to his businessman brother, while the trucks are owned by his daughter who is also engaged in the rice business.
Sueno, meanwhile, said the farm that was reported in the confidential letter belongs to him and has now improved due to the flourishing duck business.
The secretary pointed out the accusations of collecting grease money from illegal gambling rings and through Senior Supt. Sintin are unfounded as he had always said no to illegal gambling.
The DILG chief said the three undersecretaties– John Castriciones, Jesus V. Hinlo and Emily Padilla were piqued due to their clipped powers under the new delegation of authority which he issued last week.
He said the department was disappointed due to the reassignment of workload and projects to other undersecretaries since the projects were not developed.
The secretary also explained that Undersecretary Panadero, assistant secretary Ester Aldana and head executive assistant Josephine Leysa, who were also cited in the complaint, had served the department for several years. Sueno earlier warned erring officials to change their ways.
Sueno pointed out that he serves at the pleasure of the president, adding he expects President Duterte’s decision will be wise. PNA-northboundasia.com
