BAUANG, La Union – A woman was killed while seven others were injured when the tricycle they were riding was hit by a speeding passenger bus along the national highway in Barangay Dili here last Wednesday.
Chief Inspector Joel Lagto, the town’s police chief, identified the fatality as Bernaliza Benitez, a resident of Barangay Sevilla in San Fernando City, La Union.
Benitez was declared dead upon arrival at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center due to severe head and body injuries. Her companions were also brought at the same hospital for treatment.
Investigations showed that the tricycle, driven by Bernardo Benitez, was going south direction when it was bumped by the northbound mini-bus driven by Roberto Nuñez.
The bus hit the left side of the tricycle where the fatality was seated.
Nunez is now in custody at the Bauang police station and will be charged for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property. Jun Elias and Erwin Beleo/Northbound Philippines News
