CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – In observance of the Women’s Month, the Philippine National Police will hold its first ever search for “Ganda Pulis 2017” at the National headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City on March 28.
Superintendent Cherry Fajardo, chief public information officer of Police Regional Office 1 here, said the ‘Ganda Pulis 2017’ (beauty contest for policewomen) is aimed to recognize the role of policewomen, strengthen public advocacy on issues concerning women and to highlight the participation of women on leadership roles and social responsibility.
Fajardo said that the contest is open to all female PNP officers who are at least two years in the service and physically fit without pending criminal or administrative cases.
PRO1 will be represented by Police Officer 1 Ma. Carmela Geronimo who bested three other candidates during the pre-pageant held at the Concord Building here.
PO1 Geronimo, who was assigned at the police station in Agoo, La Union, was crowned PRO1’s “Ganda Pulis 2017.”
Judges of the pageant will include La Union’s Mutia Ti Turismo 2017 Shawntel Nicole Cruz and Miss San Fernando City 2016 Shaira Mae Caasi.
Chief Supt. Charlo Collado, PRO1 regional director, commended policewomen under his command and thanked them for their sacrifices for faithfully doing their job for the country and family.
“With the women’s month celebration, this is the time to show to the people that it is not only the bravery of our policewomen would be showcased but also their beauty and talent,” Collado said.
The PNP’s directorial staff has set the criteria for judging as follows: Ganda sa Paningin, 40 percent; Ganda ng kalooban, 25 percent; Talentado, 20 percent; and Ganda sa sarili or confidence, 15 percent.
There will be no swimsuit competition but awards include, ‘best in casual wear,’ ‘best in talent,’ best in gown; and the question and answer portion.
It was learned that three PNP officers who previously won in beauty pageants were invited to judge Ganda Pulis 2017. They are PO2 DonMcgyver Cochico, model and first runner-up 2015 Misters pageant; Police Inspector Sofia Lauren Deliu, Miss Philippines-Earth 2015 finalist; and Mr. International 2014 – PO2 Mariano ‘Neil Perez’ Flormata Jr. Jun Elias/Northbound Philippines News
