LAOAG CITY -— Residents and officials of the province led by Governor Ma. Imelda Josefa Marcos are all-praises for an unassuming Ilocano Cadet from the Philippine Military Academy who ranked 12th among the graduating 2017 Salaknib Class.
A native of Mariquet village in mountainous Solsona town, Cadet first class Gerald dela Cruz is among the 167 PMA graduates who will receive their military commission from President Rodrigo Duterte at the Fort del Pilar ground in Baguio City on Sunday.
He said it had always been his dream to follow his dad Primo’s footsteps hence, he enrolled at the PMA. The elder dela Cruz is a retired Master Sergeant in the military service.
Gerald’s parents said early on, they had already seen in him the potential as he had been a consistent achiever in the class.
Governor Marcos congratulated the young dela Cruz for his achievement, after having garnered 9.12 or almost perfect 10 general weighted average.
“This only shows that Ilocos Norte is a breeder of youth achievers who have a great love for the country,” said Marcos as she expressed hope this will inspire more youth to pursue their dreams and aspirations in life.
Dela Cruz said he is grateful to family and friends who supported him all the way to achieve his dreams.
“Being on top of the class is a blessing from God. Through constant prayer and perseverance, I survived the many obstacles during the training. I am just 5’1 in height. Except for the worst and hope for the best. Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can be achieved,” he said. PNA-northboundasia.com
