DILG reminds gov’t workers to observe work hours

LAOAG CITY —- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has reiterated its call among government workers to properly observe working hours and avoid being late at work.

A February 21 Memorandum No. 2017-34 issued by DILG Secretary Ismael Sueno which was received by the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte today, February 27, states the policy on government office hours and penalties for unauthorized absences, tardiness, and laziness.

On the case of more than 3,000 employees of the provincial government, Supervising Administrative Officer Miriam Ranchez said Monday they have yet to clarify the memo to the Civil Service Commission.

She cited there are several employees of the provincial government who are working even beyond office hours including Saturdays and Sundays.

Under the Capitol Express program of the provincial government, front line service providers of the provincial government are required to go on field work even on weekends.

On several occasions, some employees are also allowed to report on flexible time provided that they render eight hours of work from Monday to Friday or not less than 40 hours per week.

The DILG memo stemmed from reports that some government officials and employees do not observe prescribed office hours, while others fail to account for their attendance. PNA-northboundasia.com
