PNP to give scalawag cops who missed Basilan flight another chance

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will give another chance to the scalawag policemen who did not show up for their flight to Basilan province on Tuesday.

PNP Public Information Office (PIO) chief and spokesman Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos, in an ambush interview in Camp Crame, Quezon City on Tuesday, said that these policemen would have to come up with a good excuse to avoid being sanctioned for their non-appearance.

PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa earlier warned that policemen who do not report for their new assignment in Basilan will be automatically considered as AWOL (absent without official leave).

The C-130 cargo plane bound for Zamboanga City left the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City on Tuesday at about 6:30 a.m. with only 53 policemen out of the expected more than 200 alleged police scalawags reassigned to Basilan.

”Fifty three boarded this morning. The original time of departure was 5 in the morning but the schedule was moved to 6:30 because of the availability of the aircraft. The aircraft came from Manila, the other aircraft came from Cebu kaya hinintay dumating yung 2nd aircraft,” Carlos said.

Carlos said that out of the 200 reassigned to Basilan, 40 were excused as they had scheduled court hearings to attend in Metro Manila.

”If they are going to attend the hearing, they will be given priority like the 40 personnel na in-authorize na hindi mag-board ng plane today, yun ay may mga incoming hearing, scheduled hearing, merong non-duty status, they will be here to process their documents for retirement,” Carlos said.

”The 53 who boarded today were following the order of the command. Yung hindi pumunta, it only shows their defiance, itong mga pulis na ito. Definitely, they will have to face another administrative charges,” he added.

More than 200 police scalawags from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) have earlier been presented to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in Malacanang. PNA-northboundasia.com
