SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — Four Iloilo boxers and one from Aklan won gold medals in the boxing championship tournament of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) 2017 meet here.
The gold medalists, who will then represent Region 6 in the forthcoming Palarong Pambansa to be held here in Antique, were feted by Antique board member Eugene Alojipan and the WVRAA 2017 technical officials from the Department of Education (DepED) late Tuesday afternoon.
Renz Montano, from Iloilo, scored o29 in the 40 kilograms category against his opponent Mark Christian Kent Dorego of Aklan who got 28; Jerson Jay Nino, also of Iloilo, who also scored 29 as against Aklan’s Jan Jaylord Retubis of Aklan who got 28 in the 42 kilograms; Dan Louie Caldedero, who won due to a technical knockout (TKO) by Robert Pelayo of Aklan in the 46 kilograms; Charls Con-el, also due to a TKO by Aklan’s Reyjan Zapatos in the 49 kilograms, received gold medals.
Dorego, Retubis, Pelayo and Zapatos of Aklan received silver medals.
Winning a lone gold medal for Aklan in boxing was Jansen Iscala against Joel Ambong Jr of Iloilo in the 38 kilograms bout.
There were only three provinces that participated in the boxing tournament.
Guimaras boxers Viruel Perez, who fought in the 42 kilograms fight and Christian Dale Galanida in the 49 kilograms were also given bronze medals. PNA-northboundasia.com
