CAAP issues NOTAM asking pilots to avoid Bulusan, Kanlaon volcanoes ‘til Feb. 4

MANILA — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) Friday, telling pilots to avoid flying in the vicinity of Bulusan and Kanlaon volcanoes until Saturday (Feb.4).

CAAP said these volcanoes are currently under Alert level 1, which indicates that “hydrothermal processes are underway beneath the volcano that may lead to steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.”

”Flights operating in the vicinity of Bulusan and Kanlaon volcanoes are advised to avoid flying close to the summit, as the ash from any sudden phreatic eruption can be hazardous to aircrafts,” CAAP noted. PNA-northboundasia.com
