3 La Union Village Officials Nabbed In Anti-drug Raid

CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – Two barangay captains and a councilor were arrested for alleged possession of illegal drugs in simultaneous raids conducted by joint police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency operatives in the towns of Agoo, Pugo and Rosarion, La Union last Wednesday.

Those arrested were Jojo Rivera Alban, chairman of Barangay Maoasoas Sur, Pugo, a high value target and No. 6 top illegal drug personality in the province; Maximo Dacanay, 58, chairman of Barangay Sta. Rita Sur, Agoo, and No. 10 in the watch-list of illegal drug personalities ; and Abelardo Aspuria, 59, kagawad of Barangay Concepcion, Rosario, and top 7 in the list of illegal drug personalities.

All were arrested during the implementation of search warrants issued by Judge Romeo Atillo Jr. of the Agoo Regional Trial Court, Branch 31 and implemented by the joint operatives of Agoo, Pugo, Rosario police stations, the La Union provincial intelligence branch, La Union provincial public safety company headed by Supt. Joseph Fajardo, and PDEA regional office 1.

Seized from Alban were five sachets of the banned metamphetamine hydrocloride or shabu and assorted ammunition, four and six sachets of shabu, respectively, from Dacanay and Aspuria.

All three suspects were brought for police custody for the filing of appropriate charges against them for violations of R.A. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and another case for Rivera for violation of R.A.Act 10591 under the illegal possession of ammunition.
