BAGUIO CITY – The 22nd Baguio Flower Festival – Panagbenga 2017 will officially open on February 1, 2017, which will be highlighted by a parade and competition of street dancers and accompanied by the different Drum and Lyre Corps in costumes made of recycled materials.
The program starts at 7 a.m. at the Panagbenga Park at Upper Session Road with Ecumenical prayers from the different religious leaders – the Catholic, Christian and Islam – to include the “uggayam” (chant) of the Indigenous People (IP).
The prayers will be followed by a performance from the University of the Cordilleras’ (UC), Hapiyoh Mi Cultural Group.
The parade and competition will follow which will start from the Panagbenga Park to the Baguio Athletic Bowl.
Earlier, Panagbenga 2017 Cultural Committee chairperson Jackie Go said the competition will strictly use Original Pilipino Music (OPM) songs to promote a child-friendly atmosphere.
Twelve elementary schools will compete this year, including defending champion, Mabini Elementary School.
A short program will commence at the Baguio Athletic Bowl with the Philippine Military Academy Marching Band playing the Philippine National Anthem.
Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan said the local government unit (LGU) of Baguio City continues to support the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Incorporated (BFFFI) with a PHP4 million fund subsidy.
