LAOAG CITY — Rapid development in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is changing the economic landscape even in rural communities.
Through internet, successful companies are engaged in e-commerce to promote and sell their products online.
However, there are only few from the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are into it, hence, the Department of Trade and Industry is trying to address this.
For two days starting on Wednesday, representatives of the DTI in partnership with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte and the Philippines Long Distance Telecom (PLDT)-SME nation provided a free training course for small time entrepreneurs here to further promote their products online.
The basic training on e-commerce is being conducted at the Java Hotel here as participated in by less than a hundred MSMEs in the entire province of Ilocos Norte.
DTI Provincial Director Benjamin Garcia said this is among the first activities of the department this year –to expose MSMEs about online marketing and let them take advantage of its huge potential to grow their business.
Based on statistics, Garcia said barely one percent of the total number of MSMEs in the province have a website.
“This is a free training course program where our MSMEs may find time to avail. We hope that by doing so, we would be able to level up the skills of our clients and teach them how to market their products online,” said Garcia. PNA-northboundasia.com
