President Duterte appoints Ilocano youth leader as Commissioner at Large of NYC

LAOAG CITY -— President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed a 23-year-old youth leader from Ilocos Norte as the new Commissioner at Large of the National Youth Commission (NYC).

After receiving the official appointment papers from the Office of the President, James Caesar Ventura, a native of Barangay Manalpac, Solsona is set to meet with NYC Commissioner Aiza Seguerra on Friday for his oath-taking.

“Been trying to contain the news until I take hold of the appointment papers, after I actually make an output first and prove to myself that I am fit for the duty of serving the interest of the Filipino youth, but social media is unstoppable,” said Ventura in his Facebook wall as he thanked everyone for their trust and confidence.

“But we do not celebrate yet. Nothing yet has been done. This is no victory. It is a challenge. So, back me up!” Ventura told supporters.

Among the first who announced congratulatory messages to Ventura is his Alma Mater, which takes pride of his latest appointment.

Ventura is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education (major in physical sciences) of MMSU. He is currently working on his master’s thesis for the degree Master of Arts in Education (major in Physics) and is taking up Bachelor of Laws, also in the same university.

The proactive young leader was president of two prestigious organizations: the College of Teacher Education Student Council and MMSU Enactus. He led the team that represented the Philippines in the 2013 Enactus World Cup in Mexico.

Prior to his appointment to the NYC, he was executive director of the Ilocos Norte Youth Office and president of the Sirib Ilokano Kabataan Association, which won for the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte the prestigious Galing Pook Award in 2015.

“We are very proud of you, Commissioner Ventura. May God bless you as you serve the Filipino youth in a greater capacity,” said a statement from the MMSU Communication and Media Relations office.

“He’s one of the best and brightest youth leaders in the province. He is instrumental in mobilizing the youth of Ilocos Norte as he first served as consultant of Governor Imee Marcos for youth affairs who is also a pioneer batch of the Sirib Express program,” said Jun Arvin Gudoy of the Ilocos Norte Communication and Media Office who also served as one of Ventura’s mentor in public service and youth volunteerism.
