Traslacion 2017: Red Cross attends to 999 devotees as of 1 p.m. Monday, 5 taken to hospitals

MANILA — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) said it has attended to a total of 999 Black Nazarene devotees as of 1 p.m. Monday at the PRC first aid stations set up along the route of the procession.

The PRC reported that all of the cases were considered as minor, except for one involving a pregnant woman who was rushed to the hospital by an ambulance after she felt dizzy.

It said 670 devotees sought assistance after suffering a rise in blood pressure, while 314 suffered from toothache, dizziness, stiff neck and allergies, as well as wounds, bruises and abrasions sustained from falling, being pushed or crushed by the crowd as they attempted to get to the ‘andas’ or the carriage of the Black Nazarene.

Four other persons were also taken by ambulance to the Philippine General Hospital and Ospital ng Maynila for hypertension, abdominal pains and bone fracture. A 29-year-old male devotee who was sent to the Ospital ng Maynila is set to undergo surgery on his right foot after he lost balance and fell as he tried to get to the ‘andas’.

Meanwhile, the PRC said they helped nine people in tracing their missing companions. PNA-northboundasia.com
