MANILA — Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the military’s goal for 2017 is to defeat the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and Maute Group within the next six months.
He made the statement at the sidelights of the DND-Armed Forces of the Philippines New Year’s Call on Monday.
But Lorenzana did not give details on how the AFP plans to do this, citing operational and security reasons.
“We are going to do something new or innovative to finish this problem once and for all,” he noted.
The DND chief also said efforts will continue to recover ASG kidnapped victims whose numbers are estimated at 27.
He added the same six months timetable applies to the neutralization of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters. Priam Nepomuceno/PNA-northboundasia.com
