Baguio City to bid out operation of Asin Hot Springs Resort

BAGUIO CITY — City Mayor Mauricio Domogan has ordered the creation of a special committee will administer the bidding process for the city-owned Asin Hot Springs Resort in Nangalisan, Tuba, Benguet.

City administrator Carlos Canilao was tasked to head the special committee on awards while Romeo Concio, city accountant Antonio Tabin and officer-in-charge city legal officer Melchor Carlos Rabanes will serve as members.

Domogan directed the committee to convene and carry out the bidding procedures for the city to recover the property and turn into an income-generating asset.

The mayor said the resort whichnsits on a 4,344.23 square meter property of the city was leased to spouses Catbagan for 20 years until 1996.

The Catbagans sub-leased the resort to its former manager Roger Sinot in 1993.

Domogan noted that in June 3, 2002, Sinot entered into a Contract of Lease with the local government unit (LGU) of Baguio City for a period of 15 years with a monthly rental of PhP3,000 but the Contract of Lease was not confirmed by the Sangguaniang Panlungsod.

On June 2013, the Supreme Court (SC) affirmed the decision of the Court od Appeals (CA) ordering Roger Sinot to immediately vacate the Asin Hot Spring Resort and to pay the LGU a PhP5,000 monthly rental for the use and occupation of the resort from December 1996 until he shall have finally vacated the same.

Domogan said Sinot continuously defy the court orders as the latter is still operating the Asin Hot Springs Resort despite the demands for him to vacate the area without mentioning the supposedly rental fees to be remitted or paid to the city government. Jojo Lamaria/PNA-northboundasia.com
