PAOAY, Ilocos Norte —- The local government unit here is planning to establish a centralized embalming facility located at the town’s public cemetery.
Funded by the municipal government, the proposed new embalming site aims to provide a common facility for licensed embalmers and funeral parlors to treat human remains prior to public display or final viewing.
According to Mayor Jessie Galano, he is set to meet with funeral parlors and owners anytime this week to discuss the establishment of an embalming site away from residential houses.
For the safety of the public and to contain any disease which may be inherited from a dead person, Galano said the embalming facility regulation is one of his administration’s major priorities this year.
Once completed, licensed embalmers in Paoay town shall only be allowed to treat human remains at the government-owned embalming facility for a minimal fee.
Responding to several complaints his office received from concerned residents living near funeral parlors, he said his administration thought of constructing a new embalming site to promote health and environment sanitation.
“I hope our funeral parlor owners will understand this urgent move because our town is located in the lowland and it is prone to flooding,” Galano said. PNA-northboundasia.com
