Village chief, three of his kin shot dead in Pangasinan

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — A barangay (village) chairman of Bansal, Sta. Barbara in Pangasinan, including his son, brother and brother-in-law were killed when they were fired upon by unidentified armed men while they were on board a motorized tricycle while crossing the Malanay bridge at past 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.

The fatalities were identified as Cecilio Ballesteros Jr., now on his third term as Barangay Chairman of Bansal, Sta. Barbara; his son Bryan, who was driving the tricycle; his brother Dionisio Ballesteros, and his brother-in-law, Manuel Aquino.

The victims were going home to Barangay Bansal from Calasiao town when the incident happened.

Initial report of the Sta. Barbara police indicated the slaying of the village official and his three companions could have been planned the way the crime was executed.

The police are still facing a blank wall with regard the suspects and motive but are not discounting the possibility it might have been due to earlier suspicion that Ballesteros Jr. was involved in cattle rustling.

Love triangle is also not being ruled out by the police as Ballesteros is living with three women for whom he built houses in the same village.

Lawmen who rushed to the crime scene found that the gunmen used caliber 45 and caliber 9 mm pistols as evidenced by fired cartridges and slugs found near the crime scene. Leonardo Micua/PNA-northboundasia.com
