BAGUIO CITY — Chito Laureta shot a day best one over 70 for 35 points and towed defending champion San Miguel – Northern Cement to the lead in in the Seniors Fil – Championship flight of the 67th Fil-Am Golf Invitational Tournament presented by San Miguel at the Camp John Hay golf course on Monday.
Laureta led a strong San Miguel offense as games take a break for the premiere flight prior to the expected tight battle at the shorter Baguio Country Club golf course Wednesday finishing with 135 for a two day aggregate of 265, now five ahead overnight leader Manila Southwoods.
Benjie Sumulong and Bong Sison carded a pair of 34s, while former pro Eddie Bagtas and Jingky Tuason chipped in 32, one of which did not count.
Laureta actually made three birdies against four bogeys at the par 69 layout designed by Jack Nicklaus’s Golden Bear. These were birdies on par four or longer holes – the 2nd, 12th and the 16th which is one of the three par 5s.
Raul Minoza carded his second straight 34 and led Southwoods charge in the top flight which is turning into a two-way battle between the Carmona, Cavite based team and San Miguel.
Kui Sun Moon had a 33, Edmund Yee, who opened with a two under 38, simmered with 31 and Chang Duk Jung chipped in 28 for the team’s 126 and 260 total.
Megafiber shot 125 for a 251 total and third spot, leaving further behind 2014 winner Pugo Adventure which shot a 120 and 238 total.
Dugong Bughaw, meanwhile, made 97 points for 208 points and widen its lead over defending champion San Miguel Northern Cement I to 14 in Seniors Am Championship action.
Noel Marcellano once again led Dugong Bughaw with 26 points, Edgar Lee and Marlon Soriano counted with 24 each, while Wilfredo Princesa added 23 for the team which will also take a day rest before resuming at the longer, and relatively easier, CJH course Wednesday.
Rudy Amata led San Miguel with 28, Jeric Hechanova had 27, while Bobby Inigo and Arnold Duay added 18 and 17 points, respectively for the team which needs to work double at CJH when game resumes to be able to defend their crown.
Bryan Park led Southwoods with 24 for the team’s 88 point production and 192 total to slip to third from second and a point off Nueva Ecija which shot the day’s best score of 100.
Also, Camp Aguinaldo carded a second straight 106 but suffered a two point deduction and saw its lead down to only three points after two rounds in Senior’s Fil-A.
The team has 210 points and three up on Philippine Navy Golf Club , which shot 108 points and a two day output of 207.
Domingo Manuel paced the Aguinaldo team with 30 points, Arthur Ang chipped in 29, while Martin Limgenco and Philip del Carmen counted with 27 and 20, respectively.
The Navymen had 29 points from Antonio Mendoza and Romulo Narcida and a pair of 25s from Reynaldo Ochosa and Eduardo Lena for the team’s 207.
Project Lazarus shot also 108 points for its 199 as the teams take a break before going to the short BCC golf course.
San Miguel – Northern Cement got 27 from Efren Alvez as the team amassed 85 and 183 total for a 20-point lead on Macquarie Links.
Ariel Javelosa and Herminio Salivio scored identical 23s while Manny Bonuan added 12 to count for San Miguel.
Macquarie shot 81 for 163 and a three shot lead on host BCC which made 84 on day two.
Dradjan E-MTI assembled 95 points and wrest the lead from overnight leader Golf F/Veterans midway in Seniors Fil-B. Nap Rosito shot 28, Tom Panis submitted 24, Cris Santos chipped in 22 and Deo Halog added 21 as the team amassed 184 and a five shot lead on Golf F/Veterans.
Jun Bugaco came in with 25 to lead Golf F/Veterans which made 87 and with their opening 92, the team now has 179 after a 23 from Flor Fajilan, a 20 from Bong Joven and 19 from Pol Garcia. Isabela Golf Club – PR Bank equaled the flight best 95 and improved to third spot, three off Golf F/Veterans.
In Seniors Am-B, Golf F/Veterans remained atop the standing midway in the tournament after assembling 72 points for 150 points and an eight point lead on Korea Morning Calm.
Tom Vargas led the team with 24, Jose Cortina made 23, while Ben Baya and Art Mendoza added 13 and 12 to count for the team.
Korea Morning Calm had 22 from Phil Woolford, 19 from Ung Yong An contributed 19, a 16 and 14 from Kevin Moraghan and Gale Winchester for the team’s 71 and 142 total. Rural Bankers – Capitol also shot a 71 for a 134 total and third spot.
Salvador Arcilla shot 25 points and lead Team Glutamax Men to 85 for 169 and their one shot lead ballooned to 11 in Am-G action.
Paulo Legazpi made 25, Robert Nazal submitted 20 and Joseph Dominic Samson made 19 to count for the team in the five to play four to count event backed by Toyota, Petron, Magnolia, SMC Global Power, Northern Cement, San Miguel Lifestyle Brews, Manor at Camp John Hay, Forest Lodge, Empire, CJH Development Corporation, Baguio Country Club, Le Chef,and the CJH Trade and Cultural Center, and Mizuno.
Team Anagen Hair Growers slowed down to 77 and a 158 total for a one shot lead Seattle Fil-Am which submitted 80 points.
John Marasigan shot 27 points and led EK Amigo to 93 points for 192 points and assume a one point lead in Fil-G.
The Amigos got 24 from Dan Pangilinan and a pair of 21s from Dan Paatan and Rudy Ragracio as the team leads a surging FilKor which shot a flight best of 105 and 191.
Errol Collado led FilKor with 29, Roberto Figueroa had 26 and Sung Kil Kim and Mu Go Gwang had 25s to count for the team which started the day 18 shots off overnight leader Apo Golfers Team Service and joint fifth.
Apo simmered down with 84 and 188, two shots off Square & Compass Nueva Ecija. Isabela Producers scored another 89 for 178 points and lead Sandigan 82 by eight which improved to 94 and 170 total in Fil H.
Neil Guimmayen led Isabela with 27, Romy Cua had 22 and a pair of 20s from Tony Valencia and Gigi Jayme. Kalikid Forever shot 79 points and 151 points to retain third spot.
Lito Aure shot 27 points as Club Intramuros cruised to 81 points and 152 total to see their lead swell to 18 points. Vic Costes made 23, Ige Arrellano shot 22 and Dodo Serafica counted his nine points for the team.
